State funds needed for recruitment drive at Sino Swearingen

Aircraft manufacturer Sino Swearingen has asked the US government for financial help in its bid to increase production and recruit around 400 new employees.

The company’s design for a SJ30-2 business jet is on schedule to receive FAA certification later this year, which could mean employment opportunities at its plant in Martinsburg, West Virginia, where the fuselages and wings are built.

The company has asked the state for approximately $15,000 per new employee. If it recruits 400 staff, that could become $6 million over the next few years.

Sino president Carl Chen told the State Journal that the company is looking to recruit older, skilled workers to try to improve the current 40 per cent retention rate. He is due to meet governor Joe Manchin to request financial support.....
