Golden hellos fail to attract enough staff, Boeing claims

Boeing is having difficulty recruiting enough staff despite high salaries and bonus packages, the company has said.

Nadar Noorfeshan, avionics manager on the 787 programme, said: "For the last year, one of our major tasks has been bringing quality people in. It's a lot of work. The people with the right experience will be offered jobs that pay $80,000 to $90,000 a year, he said. Even so, "We've had a hard time finding people," he added.

The company is also offering $4,000 bonuses to employees who help recruit experienced people.

It recently flew in more than 40 avionics engineers to Washington state, where they were wined and dined, greeted by Boeing chief engineer Dan Murray, taken on VIP tours of the mammoth factory complex and interviewed by hiring managers looking to fill jobs designi....
