Innovative technology improves aerospace wiring and harness testing process

Verifying the integrity of wiring, harnesses and electrical assemblies used in aerospace applications is paramount.

With the advent of fly by wire, electronic engine management and other such critical flight systems, this becomes even more important. Testing interconnection systems using an automatic wiring analyser (cable and harness test system) provides a more comprehensive and higher level of test, improves quality monitoring procedures and invariably improves the overall efficiency of testing, resulting in reduced production costs.

CK Technologies has developed a switching matrix system to enable aircraft manufacturers to perform aerospace wiring and harness testing more easily and safely. CKT’s Graham Osborne explains how and why the system was developed.

The time to run tests on any product with a wiring analyser is generally only a small percentage of the overall test process time. Preparing and connecting the product for test is often a magnitude of tens or even hundreds that of the actual test run time.

The time to design and manufacture the product adapter or interface cables and prepare the specific test software for each assembly type can be considerable.

Increasing the test speed (tests/minute) of the system will have very little impact on the overall test time, and the test speeds quoted by some test system manufacturers have no bearing on incre....
