VLJ production begins at plant in Canada

Production has begun at Pratt & Whitney’s Longueuil facility in Canada on a family of mini jet engines that will power very light jets, or VLJs. The company inaugurated its production line at Longueuil in March for the PW-600 engines, which are destined for the VLJ market.

The aircraft, which sell for as little as $1.5 million could revolutionise air travel, the company claims.

The FAA has forecast that 5,000 VLJs will enter service over the next ten years. In an article in Montreal’s Gazette newspaper, Andrew Tanner, president for business aviation, explained: “We are ready to ramp up production for this exciting engine family. We already have a strong demand for the PW-600 and we’ve built capacity to meet high volumes. “
