Composite doors open new production cycle for Boeing 787

Serial production starts this autumn of doors, made mainly of composite material, that were designed by Saab for the Boeing 787.

The intensive work leading up to serial production includes analyses of the 'barrel test'. Mats Rudlund, industrial manager in the 787 programme at Saab Aerostructures said: "The barrel test doors are prototype designs that were developed early in the project to meet the requirements of this test. For the production aircraft, the large cargo doors have been further optimised for weight-saving reasons."

The barrel test took in the aft part of the fuselage from behind the wing. It introduced cabin pressure and simulated flight loads and provided information on static and fat....
