Airbus readies first assembly line plant outside Europe

Tianjin city is to be the site in China for the Airbus A320 assembly plant. It beat three other interested cities - Shanghai, Xi'an and Zhuhai - after months of competition. Beijing's National Development and Reform Commission has officially approved the plant to be built in the Binhai New Area in Tianjin.

It will be the first Airbus's assembly line plant outside Europe - and it will work on the first single-aisle commercial airliner to be entirely produced in China. Airbus has two assembly lines in Europe - one in Toulouse, France, the other in Hamburg, Germany.

Airbus statistics show the total number of passenger aircraft in service on the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao exceeds 340. It forecasts that China will buy nearly 600 aircraft in the next five years to meet the rising dem....
