FBW flight control technology reaches GV test flight stage

New development of fly-by-wire (FBW) flight control technology by Thales and Gulfstream has reached flight test stage. Testing has begun on a modified GV test aircraft on systems that will replace the traditionally controlled, hydro-mechanical spoiler and elevator components with electromechanical actuators.

Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation has selected Thales as a partner in its advanced flight controls (AFC) programme which is exploring the potential application of electrical or FBW flight control technology in proof-of-concept research.

Thales is contributing a flight control computer (FCC). Designed and built by Thales, the FCC interfaces with the cockpit, aircraft sensors and flight control electromechanical actuators through electrical commands, controlled by Gulfstream’s control l....
