Report identifies technologies that will radically reshape aerospace industry

Technologies with the potential to radically reshape the aerospace industry have been highlighted in a paper produced by the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium and the Royal Aeronautical Society.

They are directed energy, hypersonics, nano-structured materials, leveraging the GIG (NCW/NEC) and the human/machine interface, according to a review of industry trends and issues and their implication for technology, business development and investment.

Innovation in the aerospace industry is currently vested in the boundary layer between pure engineering and IT. Much of that innovation is taking place with tier three companies/SMEs, it says.
