EU companies in drive to boost open technologies

European aircraft companies are working together to build more open electrical technologies that should cut manufacturing costs.

A total of 61 companies have joined the European Union’s More Open Electrical Technologies (MOET) programme which is being run under the overall management of Airbus France.

One work package in the project is led by Intertechnique, a specialist in on-board electronics and electrical power management in aircraft systems. This working group, which includes EADS, Airbus, Smiths Aerospace and TTTech, will build up the common core definition of electrical power distribution systems, focusing on the field bus interface development.

MOET aims to establish a new industrial standard for electrical system design in commercial aircraft.
