Manufacturers stress the benefits of working with international partners

Western aircraft manufacturers are quick to underline the cost and sales benefits as they build bigger footprints in Asia, with China, India and Japan among prime growing markets.

Eurocopter and China

The development of the six ton, 15 passenger EC175/Z15 is the main ongoing project in China for Eurocopter and it is a prime example of how a Western airframer is working with a growing economic power that is building its aircraft industry.

China Aviation Industry Corporation II (AVIC II) and Eurocopter are progressing the EC175/Z15 advanced medium helicopter project in the latest phase of a long established partnership.

France and China each own 50 per cent of the project which they say is based on the principle of "risk sharing, joint investment in R&D for mutual benefit and market sharing.

" The partners will co-design and co-develop the EC175/Z15 and each country will have its own assembly line, in Harbin, China, and Marignane, France and sell the helicopter to the global market and service for their own customers.

Eurocopter says the programme "is the natural continuation of a long and fruitful history of joint activities between Eurocopter and AVIC II."
