Boeing and DSTO push back hypersonics frontiers

Boeing, Australia’s Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) and the University of Queensland have agreed further joint research on hypersonics. “This collaboration will provide new knowledge about hypersonic flight that could push back frontiers in aerospace,” predicts Bob Krieger, Boeing chief technology officer and president of Phantom Works, the advanced R&D unit of Boeing.

Phantom Works has the role of providing innovative technology that cuts the cycle time and cost of aerospace products and services while improving their quality and performance.

The research is part of a $54 million hypersonics research programme called HIFiRE (Hypersonic International Flight Research Experimentation) jointly established by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and DSTO. Under a r....
