Virtual improvements promised for next generation SMS
As Dassault makes its new super mid-size (SMS) jet a reality it will be "parked" on a virtual plateau from initial agreed concept to completion. Scientists, technicians and suppliers will hold frequent "cyber meetings" in a rarified atmosphere of continuous development to ensure that all improvements, from major refinements to minor tweaks, are coordinated from start to finish. The Dassault approach - Concept differential: The virtual coordination of the efforts of scientists, technicians and suppliers from around the world and very-high-performance IT security solutions.
- Design differential: CATIA design software developed by Dassault Systmes enables the physical mockup to be replaced by a digital mockup.
- Manufacturing differential: Virtual process.
Dassault knows this will cut assembly time, shorten delivery dates and ensure the SMS is a better, cheaper, faster and more reliable aircraft than could have been produced under previously achieved standards. There will be significant changes as the SMS, now in the conceptual stage, follows the Falcon 7X into assembly and production. Vincent Oldrati, 7X program deputy director, explains: "The virtual plateau enables key people in the project to exchange data and make decisions, compromises and adjustments in real-time with access from wherever they are based around the world." He adds: "We are working on increasing the scope of the virtual plateau, including enabling greater frequency....
