Airbus introduces more eco-friendly paint job

Airbus is offering a new painting technique as part of its plans to produce aircraft that are friendlier to the environment and more eco-efficient. The new technique, which is similar to those used in the car industry, requires just two coats and takes only two hours to dry, compared with standard painting techniques that can take up to six coats per aircraft and usually take up to 12 hours to dry.

A colour coat and a clear coat or varnish are applied on to a chromate free primer. The technique brings environmental benefits because it uses less solvent-based paint and requires fewer coats.
