Factory series: Why the Villaroche plant production and organisation is a complex exercise

Location: Snecma's Villaroche plant is located about 50 kilometres southeast of Paris, in Seine-et-Marne, and spans some 82 hectares (203 acres). The site hosts several Snecma corporate, operating and support divisions. It hosts precision assembly, advanced research, testing, design and international sales and marketing.

Network: The Villaroche plant is part of a Safran industrial complex that houses Snecma subsidiaries as well as other group companies: Hispano-Suiza's Reau plant, plus units of Snecma Services and Teuchos.

Snecma shares expertise with fellow Safran Group companies on many levels with an active R&D partnership policy. It has also formed partnerships with outside laboratories, research centres and universities, which may direct their research in coordination with Snecma.

History: The Villaroche site was created in 1947 for ground and flight testing of commercial and military aircraft engines. In the early 1970s, flight testing operations were transferred to the Istres base in southwest France. About ten years later, engine assembly operations were transferred from Evry-Corbeil to Villaroche.

The Villaroche plant is the largest employer in the Seine-et-Marne department and is heavily involved in the local community. Villaroche is also Snecma's "most popular" facility: each year it welcomes more than 4,000 visitors who come to see how jet eng....
