At JEC Paris Huntsman Advanced Materials will be showcasing some of its latest material developments for the aerospace market, including a new low viscosity FST resin, a new structural adhesive and new seamless modelling paste.

For aerospace interior applications, Huntsman has developed a new low viscosity RTM/infusion system which provides excellent FST (fire resistant, low smoke and toxicity) properties and fulfills FAR 25853 regulation requirements. This two-component resin exhibits excellent temperature resistance (over 200°C) and is suitable for the production of composite moulds on all wet lay-up processes including RTM, infusion, pultrusion and filament winding.

Also on show is Araldite® 1592 A / B, a two-component, thixotropic adhesive which offers outstanding strength and flexibility. Designed specifically for primary structural bonding applications, this adhesive offers excellent lap shear strength, good sag (up to 5mm), impact and crack resistance properties. Araldite® 1592 A /B is available in convenient drums and dual-barrel cartridges, allowing a simple and reliable dispensing process.

RenPaste® 4688 / Ren 4688, a new high-temperature seamless modelling paste that is heat resistant up to 200°C can also be seen on the Huntsman stand. With a low co-efficient thermal expansion and a very smooth surface after machining, this versatile material allows resin tools to be developed instead of aluminium. A substructure such as aluminium honeycomb allows tools to be used in an oven or autoclave. Even after 1000 curing cycles, this resin is not subject to chemical degradation.

For more than 60 years Huntsman has provided advanced, high-performance materials for production, repair, design and prototype of interior and exterior aircraft parts. Araldite®, Epocast®, Epibond® and RenShape® product solutions are used by OEMs of large civil aircraft, helicopters, regional jets, aerospace engines, general aviation and their subcontractors including the MRO industry and formulators.
