The unique appearance of new GammaGrind™ abrasive wheels is the result of Gardner Abrasives’ exclusive “Alpha-Pore” technology

New CITCO-Gardner cutting tool and abrasives products to be presented at AERODEF 2011

Cinetic Landis – CITCO Products and Gardner Abrasives operations will introduce several new products for grinding and cutting applications in Booth #1375 at AERODEF, April 5-7, 2011, in Anaheim, California. The products include GammaGrind and Spring Supreme grinding wheels, the XL-2010 diamond dressing system and PCBN grades B-30 and B-31.

CITCO/Gardner Abrasives' new line of GammaGrind™ abrasive wheels with Alpha-Pore™ Technology are designed for applications requiring high material removal. The new GammaGrind line includes disc and narrow-face cylinder wheels suitable for grinding a broad array of flat parts. The exclusive "Alpha-Pore" technology produces wheels with an extraordinarily large porosity—identifiable by the wheels' unique appearance—that contributes to exceptionally free cutting performance, enabling GammaGrind wheels to be used in very aggressive grinding applications. The design can be used with a variety of abrasive grit sizes and grain types, including ceramic grains for superior longevity and reduced dressing requirements.

The company's new line of SpringSupreme™ disc grinding wheels feature an advanced resin-bonded formulation and unique design making them suitable for high-production grinding of a variety of spring types and materials in both wet and dry grinding applications. The proprietary bond formulation of new SpringSupreme disc wheels incorporates induced porosity with internal lubricants. The wheels have a dramatic appearance due to the exceptionally large porosity with coarse grit. Gardner Abrasives engineers report that the new SpringSupreme disc wheels are exceptionally free-cutting, providing significant improvements in production rates (springs produced per hour) and reduction of wheel dressing in dry spring grinding applications. Unlike wheels manufactured with magnesite bonding material, Gardner's SpringSupreme disc wheels can also be used with coolant, making them ideal for use in grinding hot wound springs or any application needing large stock removal and low wheel wear.

CITCO's new XL-2010 system for grinding wheel dressing is a highly engineered dressing system designed to eliminate dressing tool break-in time for centerless, angle-head and other grinder applications. CITCO engineers accomplish this by designing the correct tool for the specific grinding wheel according to the user's individual requirements. A new XL-2010 dressing tool may be installed and immediately begin dressing for first part-good part operation. The XL-2010 can be ordered with hand-set diamonds in a specific pattern for consistency in high precision applications, or random dispersion for applications requiring less precision. The XL-2010 is a long lasting, low maintenance, high productivity dressing system appropriate for a wide range of grinding applications, from small I.D. wheels to large centerless and cylindrical wheels. Several blade widths are available. Tool inventories can be reduced using the XL-2010 system by replacing single points, grit dressers, clusters and shaped dressers.

New PCBN grade B30 has an optimum balance of toughness and wear characteristics for moderate to heavy interrupted hard turning. The B30 grade is especially suitable for machining case-hardened, through-hardened and alloy tool steels. The material also exhibits excellent performance in machining sintered iron valve seats where the abrasion demand is moderate to high.

Grade B31 is a new concept in PCBN materials that provides for extreme abrasion resistance and excellent toughness behavior in heavily interrupted machining operations. Grade B31 exhibits excellent performance in machining abrasive workpiece materials such as sintered valve seat materials, powder metallurgy tool steels and hard, high-alloy cast irons. Grade B31 has also proven to be the toughest grade for heavily interrupted machining operations such as purely interrupted hard turning and milling. The combination of toughness and abrasion resistance also imparts superior performance in machining powder metallurgy structural components.
