Lytron purchases state-of-the-art vibration test stand
Monday, 14 March 2011

Lytron recently announced that it has purchased a state-of-the art vibration test stand to further expand its in-house environmental testing capabilities. The vibration test stand allows Lytron to offer shock and vibration testing, also known as dynamics testing, to its Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers in the commercial aviation, military, and traction industries. The vibration test stand can be used for:

• Sinusoidal Vibration;

• Random Vibration;

• Sine on Random Vibration;

• Shock;

• Accelerated Life Testing; and

• Environmental Stress Screening (ESS)

The equipment meets or exceeds the ISO 5344 standards for performance characteristics and performance test conditions for electrodynamic vibration generator systems and has the following standard performance ratings:

• Sine: 7,500 lbf (33.4 kN) pk

• Random: 8,000 lbf (35.6 kN) rms

• Shock: 16,000 lbf (71.2 kN) pk

• Maximum Acceleration: 115g (1,127 m/s2) pk (Sine)

• Displacement: 2.0 in (51 mm) pk-pk

"Lytron's customers benefit from our ability to design, manufacture, and test their cooling solutions all in one location," notes David Olds, Lytron's vice president of engineering. "We're always looking for ways to add value, and vertical integration is one of the ways we reduce our customers' costs as well as their time-to-market."

Lytron specializes in the design and manufacture of build-to-specification cooling systems, assemblies, cold plates, and heat exchangers. The company provides Design Verification Testing (DVT) for Lytron engineered products including:

• Thermal testing;

• Maturity testing;

• Flight certification testing; and

• System qualification testing

Lytron performs all critical design and manufacturing processes at its 115,000 ft2 (10,700 m2) facility. The ISO 9001:2000 facility, which is located 15 miles (24 km) north of Boston, houses Lytron's engineering and corporate offices as well as its factory.
