Fuchs Lubricants get Rolls Royce and Pratt & Whitney approval
Sunday, 27 March 2011

FUCHS LUBRICANTS CO., and its parent, FUCHS PETROLUB, AG, are pleased to announce that ECOCOOL S 761 B has received approvals by two of the world's leading aircraft engine manufacturers. These approvals are the latest addition to an ongoing list of approvals for ECOCOOL S 761 B, including prestigious Boeing BAC 5008, Lockheed Martin EMAP G34.62, and Bell Helicopter.

According to the Pratt & Whitney PMC 9364-1 specification, ECOCOOL S 761 B is approved for contact with gas turbine engine parts made from steels, stainless steels, nickel-base alloys, cobalt-base alloys, aluminum, magnesium, titanium and titanium alloys (including Alloy C).

Under the Rolls Royce CSS 129 & CSS 131 specifications, ECOCOOL S 761 B can now be used by any Rolls Royce facility or subcontractor as a heavy duty coolant and as a cross feed grinding fluid.

Rolls Royce's Fluid Management Committee, in conjunction with Nottingham University, tested ECOCOOL S 761 B to extreme performance parameters before revealing their verdict. "The rigorous testing conducted by Rolls Royce proves our fluid is capable of working in even the most demanding of conditions," states Richard Rogers, FUCHS European sector coordinator for aerospace.

ECOCOOL S 761 B, developed for the next generation of aerospace manufacturing, is designed to ensure outstanding tool life and high grinding speeds when producing nickel super-alloy (including Inconel 718) and titanium (including Ti 6-4 and Ti-5553) components used in modern aircraft engines. It is formulated with outstanding bio-resistance for long service life, extraordinary foam control for high fluid delivery pressures and spindle speeds, and exceptional corrosion control of aluminum, magnesium, copper, brass & steel.

An independent study, carried out at Warwick University, found ECOCOOL S 761 B to be the best performing product in terms of tool wear, offering substantially better performance than FUCHS' closest competitor's product. "The results of this study confirm our own findings from field testing," says Jonathan Chow, FUCHS' US product manager for cutting & grinding fluids, "customers have found an increase in tool life of 2x to 6x when replacing conventional coolants with ECOCOOL S 761 B in titanium machining applications."
