Boeing Canada selects Avior for 787 Dreamliner sub-assemblies

Avior Integrated Products Limited is pleased to announce that it has signed a long term contract with Boeing Canada Operations Limited in Winnipeg (BCOL-Winnipeg) for sub-assemblies of the Vertical Fin Fairing for the 787 Dreamliner. These sub-assemblies are lightweight, secondary flight structures which incorporate Avior's integrated fabrication capabilities of composite components, machined and sheet metal details. This contract represents Avior's first award by Boeing for manufactured composites components and could generate a value of over $13 million CAD in business. Avior's composite facility obtained Boeing certification in December 2010.

"We're very pleased to be awarded this package and to participate on the Boeing 787. It extends a customer-supplier relationship Avior has had with The Boeing Company for more than 15 years," said Stephen Kearns, President and CEO, adding, "the strategic importance of this contract is centered on the role Avior will play as an integrator of light weight structural assemblies using our recently expanded and Boeing certified composite capability. The contract also recognizes the diligent effort made by Avior employees and partners, which together with the support and mentorship by Boeing has helped us build a globally competitive center of excellence in composites in Canada."

Boeing Winnipeg is a Tier I partner to the 787 Dreamliner program and is responsible for the Wing-to-Body Fairing, Main Landing Gear Doors and the Vertical Fin Fairing for the lifecycle of the program. Dave Hyem, President of Boeing Canada Operations Ltd., says Avior has shown real commitment to Boeing with recent capability improvements. "We're happy to be working with Avior on this exciting new program."

This subcontract is in line with Canada's Industrial & Regional Benefits (IRB) policy and is an integral part of Boeing's IRB programs in Canada. Canada's IRB policy requires prime contractors such as Boeing to make investments in the Canadian economy as a result of winning defense and security contracts with the Government of Canada. Boeing has four active IRB programs tied to the purchase and sustainment of four C-17 airlifters - designated CC-177 for Canadian Forces; the procurement of ScanEagle unmanned aircraft systems services; and the purchase of 15 CH-47F Chinook medium-to-heavy-lift rotorcraft - designated CH-147 for Canadian Forces. Through these programs, Boeing continues a history of more than 90 years of creating long-term, high-value opportunities with Canadian industry.
