SKR Automation announces twin shaft actuator series

SKR Automation of Seattle, Washington, USA announced the development and production of a twin-shaft series of actuators for the flexible tooling industry.

The twin-shaft actuator system was developed by Bob Samac, COO/CTO of SKR and the SKR R&D team. Samac is recognized as an industry leader and innovator because of his experience and expertise in the flexible tooling industry.

SKR systems are recognized for their innovation, simplicity, durability, reliability, and low cost.

The SKR Adaptive Tooling System is a second generation flexible tooling (or Universal Holding Fixture) system. "Bob and his team took two years studying the failure regimes and other limitations of competing systems to develop the SKR products, said Richard Richings, SKR CEO. "The Twin Shaft Series is another step in the evolution of flexible tooling systems".

The Twin Shaft Series utilizes the basic concepts of the SKR single shaft actuators. The twin shaft and all SKR shafts are square, which provides superior braking power, anti-rotation, and minimal deviation for deep chord parts. The actuators are traction driven, powered by super-capacitors with Power Over Ethernet, as well as an embedded linear magnetic tape position feedback system. The SKR Twin Shaft Series and the single shaft series are available in the Series 50 (50mm), 65mm and 75mm shaft sizes.

Pitch density available between parts area as close as 160mm by 160mm. This is particularly important for light weight aircraft metals, composites, and thin-section interiors where the parts must be controlled with a minimum of chatter. Also available are off-set adaptors for end effectors that provide a full range of clamping positions not previously found in the flex tooling industry.

Similar to the single-shaft units, the SKR actuator has less than fifty parts and can be repaired with hexagonal tools.

The SKR Adaptive Tooling System cost is 50% to 65% of comparable competing systems.

A significant sales item are the SKR "Drop-in Replacement" Series that have garnered considerable interest as replacements for existing flexible tooling systems.
