hyperMILL 2011 set for take-off at Aero Engineering 2011

At the Aerospace Engineering 2011 exhibition at the Birmingham NEC from the 9th to 10th of November, OPEN MIND Technologies UK will be demonstrating its exciting new hyperMILL 2011 CAM software on Stand 611. At the UK's leading aero engineering exhibition, OPEN MIND will be keen to highlight the benefits of hyperMILL that have noted a high uptake for its CAM package in the aerospace industry.

As a market leading 5-axis CAM package that is tailored to the production of complex components that are commonplace in the aerospace sector, hyperMILL has delivered programming and production savings of over 50% compared to alternate leading packages. hyperMILL 2011 now offers the possibility to push the boundaries of productivity even further by demonstrating more performance with less programming time.

hyperMILL 2011 is the new package that utilises existing manufacturing knowledge by offering new functions that enable the end user to gain simple, user-friendly and time-saving workflows that supports automated programming. hyperMILL 2011 introduces new 5-axis cycles and contour offset roughing and finishing that deliver more efficient machining of complex components such as blisks and impellers. Now with a 64-bit architecture, the latest version of hyperMILL offers more memory, something particularly useful when programming large parts.

The new version of hyperMILL also introduces intelligent macros that enable customers to save pre-defined rules and conditions for every stage of the machining process. hyperMILL automatically assigns and adjusts the job steps to the corresponding geometry based on these rules and depending on geometry information such as diameter, depth, open or closed pockets. Application programming interfaces (APIs) provide further automation support as they can be used to create applications that control the generation of complete NC programs.

To optimise 5-axis machining, optimised strategies further lower the programming time whilst delivering better milling results. The new Shape Level roughing and finishing function offers a strategy for 5-axis machining of surfaces with a uniform offset while avoiding the formation of 'steps' encountered from Z-Level planar strategies on curved parts. Improved 5-axis swarf cutting results in better surface quality whilst new contour milling features improve control when using large milling tools.

For rough machining, OPEN MIND has introduced hyperMAXX, a high-performance roughing strategy that has been fully integrated in hyperMILL. The remarkable productivity of hyperMAXX will also be demonstrated at Aerospace Engineering 2011. The new facility combines maximum material removal, optimal milling paths and minimised machining times. By calculating ideally distributed milling paths and dynamically adjusting the feed rate to existing cutting conditions, this strategy ensures that machining takes place at the fastest possible feed rate. The optional hyperMAXX module supports the machining of soft and hard materials to perfectly complement the existing roughing strategies in hyperMILL.
