DDC-I announces extended ARINC 653 support for Deos safety-critical real-time operating system

DDC-I, a leading supplier of software and professional services for mission- and safety-critical applications, today announced that it has added support for ARINC Specification 653 Part 1 to its DO-178B certifiable Deos™ real-time operating system (RTOS). DDC-I's powerful hybrid architecture now supports both ARINC 653 Part 1 and Part 4, providing a flexible solution that scales from the simplified Part 4 model for less complex Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) to complete Part 1 support for highly complex Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) systems. Developers utilizing ARINC 653 Part 1 will now have access to an advanced, high-performance, modular RTOS that facilitates software and certification artifact reuse, and employs patented slack scheduling that allows up to 100% processor utilization by harvesting unused worst-case execution time.

"The availability of ARINC 653 Part 1 support for Deos gives avionics systems manufacturers who have been using 653 based COTS RTOSes a high-performance alternative that offers advanced features such as enhanced modularity and slack scheduling," said Bob Morris, president and CEO of DDC-I. "Deos's unique hybrid architecture makes it easy for our customers to develop ARINC 653 applications for Deos, or to migrate existing ARINC 653 applications to Deos. It also allows them to benefit from valuable Deos features that deliver higher system performance, faster time to market, and lower overall certification costs."

ARINC Specification 653 defines a programming model and Application/Executive (APEX) Interface between an avionics computer's operating system and application software that enhances source code portability and reuse between avionics systems. The ARINC Specification 653 Part 1 is controlled by the AEEC Application/Executive (APEX) Subcommittee, which is co-chaired by representatives from Airbus and Boeing, and includes representation by Dassault, Embraer, GE Aviation, Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, Thales and other industry leaders. AEEC is the Airlines Electronic Engineering Committee, the body responsible for ARINC Standards.

Certified to DO-178B DAL A since 1998, Deos is an embedded RTOS that has been used in hundreds of safety-critical avionics applications on commercial and military aircraft. The time and space partitioned RTOS features deterministic real-time response and employs patented "slack scheduling" to deliver higher CPU utilization than any other certifiable safety-critical COTS RTOS. Built from the ground up for safety-critical applications, Deos is the only certifiable time and space partitioned COTS RTOS that has been created using RTCA DO-178B, Level A processes from the very first day of its product development. It also provides the easiest, lowest cost path of any COTS RTOS to DO-178B Level A certification, the highest level of safety criticality.

Pricing for Deos starts at $17,220 for a one-year subscription to three development seats.
