Recaro Aircraft Seating doubles US production space

Recaro Aircraft Seating is expanding its manufacturing capacities in the United States: on February 7, 2013, company representatives attended the official opening of the new addition to the factory in Fort Worth, Texas. The expansion more than doubles the amount of space at the site. In 2012 the company also expanded its plants in Germany and Poland.

Since the plant's opening in 1998, Recaro Aircraft Seating has continually expanded its facilities in Dallas/Fort Worth. In early 2012, construction work on the largest addition to date began: a new building more than doubled the production space from 10,000 to 23,000 square meters. The aircraft seat manufacturer will use the new facilities for development, production, logistics and administration. The existing building was also expanded to add 3,000 square meters of new office space.

On February 7, 2013, the company officially marked the site's expansion with an opening ceremony that was attended by Martin Putsch, Chief Executive Officer of Recaro Group, Dr. Mark Hiller, Chief Executive Officer of Recaro Aircraft Seating, and Andreas Lindemann, Chief Sales Officer of Recaro Aircraft Seating. "These substantial expansions became necessary due to various major contracts from airlines in the Americas for our bestseller, the BL3520," says CEO Dr. Mark Hiller. "With its proximity to Boeing and to Airbus's future final assembly line, as well as the world's largest airlines, the company's location in the United States plays a strategic role in the international production network of Recaro Aircraft Seating."

Kenneth Kellough, Executive Vice President and Speaker of the Management Board at the subsidiary Recaro Aircraft Seating Americas, Inc., adds: "Currently there are approximately 350 employees in Fort Worth who sell, develop and manufacture economy class and business class seats primarily for customers in North and South America. Our production volume in the United States will continue to grow: in 2012 a total of 20,000 seats were manufactured, and in 2013 we are planning on 29,000 seats. In the coming years, this number is projected to rise to 40,000 seats per year."

Growth strategy for Recaro Aircraft Seating

The expansion in the United States is part of the company's long- pursued goal of expanding its capacities around the world in order to meet the growing market demand. In 2012 the company opened an expansion to its headquarters in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany. During the same year, the production facilities at the company's site in Swiebodzin, Poland, were doubled in size. In Qingdao, China, a plant is currently under construction and is set to begin production in 2013. This will make Recaro the first international aircraft seat manufacturer to make products specifically for the local market. With these plans in place, the company is well on its way to achieving its goal of increasing its global workforce to 2,200 employees by 2017, with sales of 500 million Euros.
