Heroux-Devtek signs long term contract with Bombardier Aerospace on new Learjet 85 program

Héroux-Devtek Inc. (TSX: HRX), a leading Canadian manufacturer of aerospace and industrial products, today announced that Bombardier Aerospace has awarded its Landing Gear Division a contract to provide the landing gear for the newly launched Learjet 85 business aircraft program.

Under the terms of the agreement, Héroux-Devtek will design, develop, fabricate, assemble, test and deliver landing gear structure and actuation for the Learjet 85 aircraft. This life-cycle mandate also includes the provision of spare parts.

"The Learjet 85 is an exciting new aircraft program and Bombardier Aerospace is pleased that Héroux-Devtek is part of our team," said David Coleal, vice-president and general manager, Learjet.

Launched on October 30, 2007, the new Learjet 85 aircraft will be the first Bombardier Aerospace jet to feature an all-composite structure and will be the first all-composite structure business jet designed for type certification under FAR Part 25. An extraordinary advancement in next generation flight, this structure will allow Learjet designers to maximize cabin comfort while minimizing drag and improving performance. Exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, reduced maintenance and extended service life are key characteristics of all-composite airframes and the ultra smooth surfaces of the carbon fibre structures permit superior aerodynamics. Other competitive advantages of composites include reduced structural part count and significantly less vulnerability to corrosion or fatigue damage than metal.

"We are proud that Bombardier has recognized Héroux-Devtek as a first tier supplier for this important program. This is the second time in less than a year that Héroux-Devtek has been selected to participate in the development phase of a major program for one of our customers," commented Martin Brassard, Vice-President and General Manager of Héroux-Devtek's Landing Gear Division. "Our ability to win another design mandate is most significant as it confirms the success of our strategy to develop proprietary products. It is clear that the investments we have made in this area are now paying off."

"Héroux-Devtek has the capabilities and the expertise to support complete development programs like the Learjet 85 aircraft; it is a growing market and we are well positioned to support the demand," stated Gilles Labbé, President and Chief Executive Officer of Héroux-Devtek. "We are most appreciative of the confidence that Bombardier continues to manifest in our Company. This latest contract speaks to the excellent relationship that the two organizations enjoy and underlines the mutual esteem we have steadily built over the years."

In January, it was announced that Bombardier Aerospace had renewed a five-year contract estimated at over Cdn$110 million with Héroux-Devtek's Aerostructure Division to manufacture structural detail components that encompass Bombardier's entire portfolio of Regional and Business Aircraft.

"This contract award continues to strengthen and grow our long term business relationship with Héroux-Devtek, a Canadian first tier supplier for our all new state-of-the-art Learjet 85 business jet.", said Janice L. Davis, vice-president, Supply Chain, Bombardier Aerospace.
