L-3 to supply standby displays and recorders for Gulfstream G500 and G600 aircraft
Wednesday, 12 November 2014

L-3 Aviation Products (L-3 AP) announced today that Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. has selected the new GENESIS™ Touch Screen Standby System and the FA5003 Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR)/Flight Data Recorder (FDR) for installation on its newest G500 and G600 aircraft.

“Working in tandem with Gulfstream engineers, L-3 has developed a new touch screen standby display system that will debut aboard these amazing business jets,” said Larry Riddle, vice president of marketing and sales for business, regional and general aviation at L-3 Aviation Products. “These displays were designed to complement the Symmetry™ Flight Deck, providing pilots with a seamless and extremely capable avionics suite.”

The L-3 content for each aircraft will include two GENESIS systems and two FA5003 recorders - one serving as a cockpit voice and the other as a flight data recorder.

The L-3 GENESIS is a panel-mounted touch screen intended to exceed the standby display requirements for the fixed-wing Part 25 market. The unit interfaces with external sensors and systems to provide the flight crew with the display of attitude, altitude, airspeed, heading, flight guidance and navigation information. The GENESIS features a wide-screen, five-inch diagonal LED backlit Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD) with 800x480 (15:9) resolution. The display is used in conjunction with a traditional knob and menu button for intuitive crew interface and menu navigation. The thin and lightweight design allows the instrument to be mounted virtually anywhere in the cockpit.

The FA5003 recorder has the flexibility to be configured as a standalone CVR, FDR or a combination CVDR. Configured as a CVR, the unit converts analog cockpit audio signals to a digital format and provides large-capacity digital memory storage for audio data recording. It also includes a Recorder-Independent Power Supply (RIPS) module that integrates to the exterior of the unit. When configured as an FDR, the unit samples and records ARINC 717 aircraft data. When configured as a combination CVDR, the unit samples and records both cockpit audio and flight data, including data links.
