CERTON International Innovation Center gives students real-world engineering experience
Wednesday, 11 March 2015

CERTON has recently expanded into a new facility located on campus at the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) in Melbourne, FL. The CERTON International Innovation Center (CIIC) is a joint partnership between CERTON and FIT, providing students with paid internship opportunities.

Melbourne, FL March 11, 2015 – Located in Panther Plaza, CIIC has opened its doors to FIT students pursuing engineering related degrees. This new program allows students to work on real world safety-critical projects and see how the fundamentals of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering apply to the Aerospace, Medical, and Transportation industries. This partnership also gives FIT the ability to expand upon their current educational offerings while giving CERTON access to a large pool of highly talented students. The partnership also allows international students to get involved in these programs and opportunities to learn and contribute in engineering.

Currently, several students from FIT have come on board and hit the ground running, writing test cases and procedures, updating source code, writing requirements, reviewing test cases and procedures, and developing automated tests for independent verification and validation. These students form the core of the initial pilot program for CIIC, and will be working with state of the art software while learning from veteran engineers. Long term, CERTON plans to expand CIIC and continue to provide students with paid internship opportunities while leveraging the program to bid competitively in the industry. CERTON also plans to partner with other engineering firms in the Melbourne/Palm Bay area to be able to provide those firms with the large array of talented engineers that CERTON has access to through their partnership with FIT.

Timothy Stockton, President and CEO of CERTON, states, “This is an exciting time for CERTON and 2015 is shaping up to be our best year since we started in 2006. Having access to the talented students at FIT gives CERTON even more of a competitive edge in the safety-critical embedded software and electronic hardware industry. ”
