High demand filters ensure peace-of-mind across the aerospace industry
Thursday, 28 May 2015

The global aerospace industry is benefitting from the assurance and protection that is being provided by high-quality last chance filters manufactured in Ashland, Virginia.

Responding to increased market demand, Porvair Filtration Group - a world leader in high precision filtration and separation technology - has extended the manufacture of its last chance filters to its cutting edge Virginia facility.

Porvair, recently honoured in the UK with the Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade, is providing leading solutions to meet stringent aerospace standards – and says that its last chance filters are in high demand, helping to prevent sudden, catastrophic failure by providing final system protection.

Effective filtration within aircraft equipment is vital to ensure that all systems are free from contaminants and to guarantee safety, long service life, reliability and cost-effective operation in the most demanding situations.

Porvair's Aerospace Market Manager, Andy Cowan said: “After carefully investing in increased manufacturing capabilities at our Ashland facility last year, we have experienced major global interest in our last chance filters.

“It's clear that the aerospace industry is increasingly responding to stronger safety and environmental demands, with these filters at the top of the list for providing heightened protection, and generating peace-of-mind that translates to happier operators and travellers.

“The innovative design of our last chance filters also ensures a long service life, increased efficiency and reliability in the most demanding situations, whilst providing a cost-effective solution.

“We are keen to promote a new industry standard, and believe that this filter is an ideal starting point.”

Last chance filters are among the most process critical elements that Porvair manufactures under strictly controlled conditions, providing critical point-of-use protection for contamination-sensitive components, and performing a complimentary role to main system filters.

While main system filters are very effective, there can still be high levels of particulate contamination generated within the fluid system. Secondary last chance filters trap and retain contamination such as machining chips, burrs, wear debris and fluid breakdown products induced during operation or built in downstream of the main system filters.

To provide maximum protection, last chance filters are tailored specifically to the system's operating and environmental conditions. They interface with customer systems and are supplied in a variety of forms including discs, unions or as special assemblies that can be integrated into other components such as valves.

Porvair Filtration Group designs and manufactures specialist filtration components and assemblies to meet the challenges of the aerospace and defence industries for contamination control in hydraulic, fuel, lubrication and air systems, with manufacturing sites in both the UK and USA.

Porvair's UK operation is currently manufacturing key components for the Airbus A350 and Bombardier's CSeries – among the world's most efficient aircraft.
