Handtmann follows the trend of new automated solutions
Monday, 6 July 2015

Handtmann A-Punkt Automation GmbH with headquarters in Baienfurt/Germany is a member of the international Handtmann Group with about 3,300 employees. Founded more than 25 years ago, Handtmann A-Punkt is developing and constructing profile machining centres, universal machining centres, moving high portal machining centres and horizontal machining centres. The unsurpassed application diversity of the 5-axis HPC/HSC Handtmann machining centres ranges from mill-turn parts up to diameter 1,300 mm, to profiles up to 30,000 mm in length and structural parts up to 4,000 x 1,000 and 7,000 x 2,000 mm up to large volume parts up to 47,000 x 7,000 mm. Even for complex workpieces our broad product portfolio allows tailored solutions for machining of aluminium, steel, titanium and composite. Solutions for automated processes are available for any of the Handtmann machine series. Also for our latest machine series, the HBZ Trunnion, automated solutions are constantly developed.

Since the introduction of the HBZ Trunnion series in 2012, the application diversity of the 5-axis HPC horizontal machining centres HBZ Trunnion has been continuously expanded regarding workpiece sizes (Ø max. 850, 1,300, 1,700 mm), materials (aluminum, steel, titanium) and sectors (aerospace, mould- and die, automotive, energy technology) and is operated successfully in a variety of industries and countries. Handtmann presents at this year's EMO a new facet of the HBZ Trunnion machine series' application range and flexibility: the automation of the HBZ Trunnion 80 with KUKA KR 600 FORTEC six-axis industrial robot controlled through the Siemens CNC – SINUMERIK with Run MyRobot/Machining. This innovation is a new development of the strategic partners KUKA and Siemens with Handtmann as a launch customer.

Following the industry trend to continuously increase machine productivity for our customers, the HBZ Trunnion series is extended by this robot-based automation solution. The economic extraction and post-processing system provides a flexible and dynamic production - optimally controlled by combining the two controls Siemens CNC - SINUMERIK 840D sl and KUKA KR C4. Therefore, the entire manufacturing with robot automation cell can be easily controlled via the Siemens control panel of the HBZ Trunnion and robot mechanisms are seamlessly integrated into machine concept and production processes. The Siemens SINUMERIK control ensures machine operators an intuitive configuration and programming of the manufacturing cell without requiring special robot skills. With this world's first at the EMO, SINUMERIK-based material handling and post machining processes such as drilling, brushing, deburring and polishing even for parts with a maximum weight of 600 kg parallel to machining are possible. By optimum use of the robot's degrees of freedom and the post machining processes of the parts within the safe manufacturing cell not only maximum flexibility but also full availability of the HBZ Trunnion 80 is guaranteed. Handtmann ensures its customers with this intelligent robot- and SINUMERIK-based automation solution from one source shorter machining times and reduced cost per part. Additionally, high machine- and spindle utilization in 5-axis simultaneous machining as well as high accuracy for complex workpieces are guaranteed.
