FAG Aerospace honoured with Pratt & Whitney Supplier Sustainability Award

Fischers Aktien-Gesellschaft (FAG) Aerospace, a division of the Schaeffler Group, has been recognized with Pratt & Whitney's 2015 Supplier Sustainability Award for the company's outstanding social, environmental and employment standards. Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corp.

"FAG Aerospace reflects Pratt & Whitney's commitment to having a world-class, environmentally conscious supply base," said Sergio Loureiro, vice president, Global Supply Chain, Pratt & Whitney. "The company's employees are dedicated to achieving the highest level of environmental excellence and their dedication is a great demonstration of what we are looking for in a sustainable supplier."

Schaeffler Aerospace currently holds 222 valid environmental certifications worldwide and has developed an energy management system according to the global ISO 500001 standard. All of its manufacturing locations worldwide are validated and certified under the ISO 14001 (environment protection), OHSAS 18001 (occupational safety) and European EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme).

"When Pratt & Whitney launched its 2025 Sustainability goals, the concept was straightforward - reduce the environmental impact of our operations, suppliers and products," said Mary Anne Cannon, vice president, Environment, Health & Safety, Pratt & Whitney. "The performance of FAG Aerospace is an example of the dedication to sustainable practices we need to see from all our suppliers to help us meet our 2025 sustainability goals."

In 2014, FAG Aerospace and United Technologies Corp. (UTC) jointly invested in a dedicated bearings manufacturing facility for UTC's aerospace divisions, including Pratt & Whitney, Pratt & Whitney Canada, UTC Aerospace Systems and at the time, Sikorsky. At the facility, FAG Aerospace implemented free cooling and central coolant systems, which use external temperature conditions as free coolant. The facility also uses recycled water and is a paperless environment, all contributing to a much lower environmental footprint and significant cost savings.

"We created the Supplier Sustainability Award in 2013 to recognize suppliers that demonstrate exceptional performance in resource conservation, ethics, labor guidelines and safe workplace standards," said Doug Purdy, vice president, Environment, Health & Safety and Quality, Pratt & Whitney Canada. "In 2014, the award was expanded to include all Pratt & Whitney suppliers."

Pratt & Whitney suppliers were invited to apply for the award by participating in a voluntary survey about the company's commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainability. The survey included questions about code of ethics, environmental targets, Environment, Health & Safety management systems, level of sustainability report, certifications and community outreach.
