Portable MIL-STD-1553 databus network tester; precise, rapid & handy

The mission to finish the portable tester developed by AXON' is to facilitate the work of aircraft integrators when checking databus networks.

Compact & light - it weighs around 4kg - this equipment confirms if the MIL-STD-1553 databus harnesses have been poorly cabled or damaged during installation.

Several companies are interested in purchasing AXON's portable tester.

How does it work.

Databus harnesses are composed of a bus line and several stub lines on which the different electronic aircraft devices called 'remote terminals' are connected: on-board computers, temperature sensors, kerosene probes, navigation systems, identification friend or foe systems, weapons... The data circulating on the harness will transmit the operating orders to these different remote terminals.

The test bench developed by AXON' will successively verify all the different stub lines of the harness and especially the following electrical characteristics: attenuation, polarity (phase), transformer resistance, presence of short circuits between pairs and shield.

The portable tester is composed of 3 elements: a signal generator, a measurement base and a calibration kit.

The latter allows confirmation of the correct operation of the test bench before the test begins.

High precision measures.

The generator is connected to the bus line and injects the signals into the harness.

Compared to other measurement benches available on the market, AXON's test bench uses sine waves instead on pulse waves. The advantage: the measurements will be more precise.

At the same time, the generator sends information about the signal's characteristics via HF link (frequency 433 MHz) to the measurement base.

The measurement base takes this information into account when analysing the signal.

Rapid measurements easy to operate.

The measurement base is successively connected in place of the remote terminals.

With the help of its user-friendly embedded PC operating with a light version of Windows XP the measurement base will analyse the signal.

The measurements are carried out very rapidly: only 10 seconds per connected remote terminal!

The results are monitored on an 8.4 inch touch screen. Two USB outlets allow connection to a printer or to record the results as html files. The measurement base can also be connected to an Ethernet network to download the measurement files.
