On July 7 the basic element of the MC-21 wing - the polymeric composite wing box was delivered to the Central Aero-Hydrodynamic Institute named after Professor Zhukovsky (TsAGI).
The wing box is designed for static tests. Their results will show static strength of MC-21 wing.
The special wing box test-stand was built in TsAGI to implement the test program.
The composite structure of this size is created and tested for the first time in Russia.
The wing box was manufactured by the AeroComposite-Ulyanovsk plant and delivered to the TsAGI by highway transportation.
Extensive use of composite materials manufactured according to unique domestic technologies, will provide MC-21 flight performance advantage of other aircraft in its class.
Currently, assembly of the second MC-21 aircraft is completing at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant - a branch of Irkut Corporation, which will also to be sent to TsAGI for static tests.
