Finally, Beechcraft G36 Bonanza pilots can fly with the peace of mind that comes with having ice protection. The FAA has awarded a new Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the G36 to CAV Ice Protection in Salina, KS for its Flight Into Known Icing (FIKI) TKS Ice Protection System.

"We have been working toward obtaining FIKI approval for the G36 for a while and, with more than 300 other Bonanza aircraft previously flying with the TKS Ice Protection System, we have already integrated the work into our routine installation schedules," said Kevin Hawley, president of CAV Ice Protection.

The TKS Ice Protection System sends TKS, an ethylene glycol-based fluid, through laser-drilled titanium panels installed on the leading edges of the wings and horizontal and vertical stabilizers. A slinger ring on the propeller and a spray bar for the windshield also exude the fluid to protect those surfaces from ice buildup. A full tank of liquid provides 2.5 hours of continuous ice protection for the Beechcraft G36, and the system can be turned off and on as needed. The system adds 51 pounds empty and 115.4 pounds with a full tank of fluid.
