Embraer breaks ground for its first U.S. assembly plant

Embraer broke ground, today, for its first U.S. aircraft assembly plant and customer center at Melbourne International Airport. Present at the ceremony were Florida Governor Charlie Crist, Melbourne City Mayor Harry Goode, and other distinguished State and local officials manning ceremonial shovels, along with Embraer President & CEO Frederico Fleury Curado.

The new facility will be dedicated to the Company's executive jet business and is scheduled for completion in 2010. When full capacity is reached, up to eight Phenom business jets will be produced every month at this facility.

The Melbourne plant will become Embraer's Executive Jets Customer Center for the configuration of the Phenom, Legacy and Lineage jets. Customers will be able to design their executive jet's interior with the use of high-end 3D visualization technology, supported by a showroom with a vast collection of interior finishing materials.

"Today's groundbreaking celebrates a milestone for Embraer, by launching its first U.S. assembly plant, devoted to the executive jet business," said Frederico Fleury Curado, Embraer President and CEO. "We are excited to begin building our Melbourne facility, strengthening our presence in the great State of Florida, which dates back to 1979."

"As Florida continues to emerge as a leader in the American aviation industry, we're proud to celebrate this achievement for our state, which is a big win in our economic development plan," said Governor Charlie Crist. "The growth of Embraer in Florida demonstrates the strength of our aviation sector and highly skilled workforce. I congratulate everyone involved in advancing this project to where we are today."

"Today marks a substantial win for the City of Melbourne. Not only will this state-of-the-art facility be a beautiful addition to our growing corporate landscape, but Embraer will also be joining the ranks of some of the most impressive employers in the world, who call our city home. Even more impactful will be the injection of capital investment, new jobs and added ancillary economic benefits that will come with this project. This win wasn't easy. I would like to personally thank, on behalf of the City Council and the Airport Authority, the many people who worked together to make this happen for our region," said Harry Goode, Mayor, City of Melbourne.

"With this groundbreaking, we begin to realize the vision of all of those who have worked diligently to bring new ventures to the Space Coast. It signifies the beginning of important work to be accomplished and solidifies the months of activation by many community partners to make this happen for our community. We have successfully been able to use our pro-business climate and highly skilled workforce as assets in attracting an international powerhouse that will transform the landscape of our aviation sector," said Lynda L. Weatherman, President and CEO, Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast. Embraer's 150,000-square-foot facility will house a final assembly line capable of producing both the Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 executive jets, as well as a paint shop and a delivery and customer design center.
