Nasmyth Group establishes new company in India
Monday, 13 February 2017

As the world's aerospace and defence industries gathered in Bangalore for Aero India 2017 exhibition and air show, Nasmyth Group, a global engineering solution provider to the aerospace and allied sectors, celebrated the incorporation of its new company in the city.

The inauguration of Nasmyth India Private Limited (Nasmyth India) further establishes Nasmyth's presence in India and addresses a growing international need for design engineering expertise within the aerospace sector.

Initially the new company will provide a platform to source engineering and design services for multiple businesseswithin Nasmyth Group and enhances its core UK skills base to meet growing business demands. Nasmyth India will deliver leading edge design and engineering services for a vast array of components and equipment which will bemanufactured throughout the Group's extensive worldwide supply chain, including partners in India.

The new company is a huge step forward for Nasmyth Group as it invests further in the development of its operations in India and the company seeks to harness the opportunities to grow its design engineering, systems engineering and intellectual property.

Nasmyth Group already has a strong team in India led by local manager, Ravi Kumar, after setting up the Nasmythliaison office in 2013. The liaison office manages the planning, engineering, production, cost and quality of components produced across India for Nasmyth Group. In four years, the liaison office has grown to directly manage Nasmyth Group's extensive network of Indian partners, which together employ more than 1,000 skilled people.

Peter Smith, Chief Executive and Chairman of Nasmyth Group explained: “Talk of the skills shortage in the UK has become a reality for us and many others in our industry. It is hard for us to recruit engineers in the UK who are qualified to deliver the challenging level of engineering design and production skills that we require as a growing, leading-edgemid-cap supplier to global aerospace and associated industries. The new company will provide a permanent and flexible core resource within Nasmyth Group to support our customers, now and in the future. It represents a big cultural and organisational commitment for Nasmyth Group and is driven by our need to access, train and develop a greater pool of qualified engineers able to meet our business needs.”

With demand forecast to grow across the industry, Nasmyth Group sees that its Indian company has the potential to grow into a stand-alone organisation providing engineering services to customers around the world.

Peter continued, “I have been extremely impressed by the quality of the engineers in India, many of whom study atIndian universities that are often affiliated with UK universities, meaning that we, and our customers, can be confident that the course content, measurement and assessment standards are completely comparable with any other international graduates.”

Nasmyth Group is clear that this expansion of its business is not about replacing UK skills, but is contributing toexpanding its pool of expert resources that it needs to continue to deliver for its customers. Nasmyth Group is committed to growing the UK skills base through the Nasmyth Apprentice Academy and the Group's support for engineering training programmes. The extension of the Nasmyth Academy to embrace Indian operations will be a natural development in due course. Encouraged by the industry primes who are investigating similar models, Nasmyth has taken the step to establish a private limited company that will surely be an example that is keenly watched and followed.

Around 80 industry and public sector leaders attended a ceremony and reception to mark the inauguration of the new business at the Windsor Manor Hotel, in Bangalore. The ceremonials included the traditional Deep Prajwalan (Lighting of the Lamp), a ceremony, which forms a strong symbol of enlightenment, hope, prosperity and knowledge.

Paul Everitt, Chief Executive of ADS Group, the UK's national trade association for the aerospace, defence, security and space industries said of the event: “It is great to be celebrating the global growth of Nasmyth Group in Bangalore today. They are a core part of the UK's internationally successful aerospace industry with a commitment to engineering excellence, innovation and supply chain development. The combination of their aerospace know-how and the design and engineering capability here in India will help deliver the competitive goods and services global customers need.India and the UK are building an ever closer industrial alliance, which can deliver jobs and prosperity for both our nations.”
