Lufthansa Technik presents new features of its nice®-system at EBACE 2009

On this year´s European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva, Lufthansa Technik presents several new features of its Inflight Entertainment and Cabin Management System nice® (networked integrated cabin equipment). Latest developments focused on new ways to control all the different systems in the cabin of VIP & Executive aircraft.

For passengers who like to use an integrated control solution, Lufthansa Technik has upgraded the nice®-system with an improved wireless system controller. Responding to customer demand, this handheld touchscreen device now features a coloured graphical user interface. The new wireless system controller, while not in use, can now be mounted in four different cradles that safely keep the device in place and also recharge it. From fixed versions to solutions that retract into the aircraft's furniture, the new cradles offer passengers full flexibility. On tables or walls, on drawers or wardrobes as well as on pop-up side-ledges or credenzas, specific cradle solutions with magnetic latches allow the device to be mounted in nearly all kinds of areas.

In Geneva, Lufthansa Technik also presents a unique solution for passengers who prefer using their own personalized control device instead of the wireless and wired nice® controllers. All typical IFE and CMS functions of the cabin interior can now be controlled from an iPod® or iPhoneTM, for example lighting levels and audio or video programs. The required software will be available for download and enables the passenger's mobile device with most features of the wireless system controller.

For passengers in favour of traditional cabin control devices, Lufthansa Technik alternatively offers customized capacitive switches for its nice®-system. Their touch-sensitive surface features a clean look that allows them to be easily integrated in all kinds of cabin furniture. Colourized keys provide passengers with a clear feedback about activated or deactivated cabin systems, and mini LCD displays show additional information, for example music and video volume levels, which provide the capacitive switches with the same functionality as the wireless control solution.

Also at display will be Lufthansa Technik's HD 3-D moving map system niceview[TM]- now fully integrated into the nice® system. The improved nice® control devices inclusive the iPod® and iPhone[TM] can now be used to remotely switch between the different views or map styles in order to provide passengers with all the information they desire at nothing more than a fingertip. Running in HD-quality, niceviewTM offers numerous 3-D and 2-D views utilizing worldwide satellite imagery.
