Metronor AS signs Teaming Agreement with BAE Systems

Metronor AS and BAE Systems have signed a Teaming Agreement for cooperation in the field of advanced boresight systems for US made weapon system platforms.

Under the agreement Metronor and BAE Systems will compete for future deliveries of advanced boresight systems for US weapon system platforms, including but not limited to all US made fighter aircraft. The systems intended for the US platforms will be based on Metronor's core HarmoLign Boresight System technology, originally developed under contract with BAE Systems. This technology is derived from Metronor's patented electro-optical technology, and has been designed to provide the most flexible, capable and affordable boresighting/harmonization technology available in the market. While the system shares key technology with Metronor's proven range of industrial geometry measurement systems, the HarmoLign system has been engineered from the ground up to meet all applicable military standards and requirements. The system can readily and affordably be adapted to a wide range of weapon system platforms, as well as for alignment of civil aviation sensors/systems. Although originally developed for measurement of roll-, pitch- and yaw offsets only, the system can also be used for accurate determination of position. As such the system provides full 6 degrees of freedom (6-DOF) capability, providing complete alignment/harmonization solutions for optical helmet tracker systems and other weapon system sensors requiring 6-DOF alignments.

BAE Systems, as the prime contractor, is responsible for the total system — boresight concepts, architecture, integration, design, and production of all aircraft-unique interface adapters and graphical user interfaces.

Metronor will be a principal subcontractor to BAE Systems, responsible for providing the core boresight system software, the system sensor (camera) and applicable boresight pads (LED pads).

'We are indeed happy to have reached this agreement, and we are very much looking forward to the cooperation with BAE Systems. Metronor's HarmoLign technology has already proven its versatility and cost effectiveness in weapon system platform programs like the Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer Program, the Saab Gripen Program, the T-50 Advanced Jet Trainer Program and others, and I am confident that the cooperation with BAE Systems will add various US platforms to the HarmoLign family', says Oeyvind Roetvold, CEO and President of Metronor. 'Metronor's HarmoLign technology, together with BAE Systems' access to the US defense equipment market and their knowledge about US boresight requirements and concepts will be instrumental in our joint efforts to penetrate the US market', Mr Roetvold continues.

"BAE Systems conducted a thorough study of potential partners and technologies for developing the next generation of aircraft boresight equipment," said Carl Huncharek, Product Line Director for BAE Systems. "We're confident that Metronor will help us deliver increased capability to the warfighter — at a reduced cost."

Boresight Alignment Equipment System is a major evolution in reducing aircraft boresight life cycle cost, logistics footprint, operational time to boresight, training, and periodic calibration and is quickly and easily adaptable to any aircraft. "Importantly, the Boresight Alignment Equipment System and Harmolign capability to measure 6-degrees of freedom, and perform both angular and positional measurements, supports the future needs of 5th generation fighter aircraft".
