Friday, 18 December 2009

Avionica is proud to announce that our satLINK Iridium Communications Gateway provided Iridium communications during the maiden voyage of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Avionica's satLINK was selected by Boeing and fitted in support of the flight test program. "Iridium provides Boeing a globally available communications medium with excellent availability, reliability, and cost," stated Avionica Vice-President Stylian Cocalides, "Avionica's satLINK solution provides a state-of-the-art solution, integrating seamlessly with the Dreamliner's communications and other avionics systems. We are very proud to be part of the team effort leading to this day."

"Iridium promises to be a critical component of the Future Air Navigation System (FANS) by enabling global CPDLC communications between ground Air Traffic Services (ATS) and airborne avionics systems," said Avionica president Raul Segredo, "This and other data-messaging-based applications, such as Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS), Required Navigation Performance (RNP) and Constant-Descent Approaches will serve to improve safety, ease congestion, and save fuel."

Avionica has installed hundreds of Iridium satellite communications systems on Boeing aircraft the world over. Installations include other Boeing fleets such as the 727, 737, 747, 757, and 767. Supplemental Type Certificates are also available for aircraft of other major manufacturers.
