The newly certified Skycar

OMA SUD Skycar receives EASA Type Certificate

During Final Certification Meeting with ENAC held in OMA SUD facilities on 17th December 2009 has been closed the long Certification Process for the SKYCAR aircraft. The Type Certificate has been formally issue by EASA on 08th January 2010.

A basic milestone achieved having performed long and intensive static and flight tests that have requested the issue and the EASA approval of about 200 Technical Certification Reports, 80 Technical Specifications, 90 Structural Tests, 30 Components Qualification Tests, more than 2000 drawings and the management of about 4.500 parts, 114 Certification Flight Tests totalizing about 150 flight hours until the aircraft has been moved at Pratica di Mare Airport (Rome) where it has been made available for Ing. Paolucci, ENAC Specialist, and for Com.te Severino De Luca, Flight Test Pilot of Italian Aeronautica Militare.

OMA SUD applied for a type certificate in 2004 and first demonstrated a SKYCAR mock-up at the Paris Air Show in 2005. First flight took place in December 2007 and worldwide premiere was during last Paris Air Show in 2009.

OMA SUD, that has fully developed "in house" the SKYCAR project and, thanks to its capabilities, that has designed and manufactured landing gear, seats (Certificated @ 26G) and interiors, is the sole worldwide aeronautical company to have autonomously developed and realized a complete aircraft and so OMA SUD is currently on the market as a General Aviation Manufacturer capable to offer design and manufacturing services for landing gears systems, seats (up to 26G) and interiors.

These actual acquired certified capabilities makes it possible for OMA SUD to extend its industrial activities to these new field of applications for external customers.

SKYCAR is a multipurpose aircraft, extremely versatile and with low operating cost.

OMA SUD has already started to develop two SKYCAR new configurations the so called "SURVEYOR" and "XMP" for special mission purposes such as patrol, medical evacuation and stretchers transportation, homeland security - surveillance and pollution control by mean of advanced sensors, manufactured also by Italian companies such as Selex Galileo, a Finmeccanica Group Company.

At OMA SUD headquarter, at Capua – Caserta on O.Salomone Airport, has been launched first six aircrafts production to be delivered to some USA customers.

On Opa Locka Airport, Miami Dade County, has been opened the OMA SUD US for assembling activities, after sales services and spare parts to better serve USA, South America and Caribbean markets.

Currently orders backlog is more than 90 aircrafts that thanks to the achievement of a Type Certificate is suppose to be increased.

The SKYCAR will be demonstrated in surveillance and homeland security configuration during next GATE XXI Air Show that will take place in Rome at Urbe Airport from 21 to 24 January 2010. SKYCAR demonstrations will go on taking part in Oskosh and Grand Lake Air Shows in USA and in other events on East Europe, North Africa and Middle East scheduled in the whole 2010.
