Parker Aerospace, COMAC, and AVIC Systems hold contract signing ceremony for flight control actuation system on new C919 aircraft
Thursday, 15 April 2010

Parker Aerospace, a business segment of Parker Hannifin Corporation (NYSE:PH) , the global leader in motion and control technologies, and Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) held a contract-signing ceremony today naming Parker the primary fly-by-wire flight control actuation system provider for the new COMAC C919 large aircraft. The ceremony was attended by Parker Aerospace, COMAC executives, and local city officials.

Primary flight control actuation system. Parker Aerospace's Control Systems Division will develop the C919's primary flight control actuation system. The fly-by-wire system will include horizontal stabilizer trim actuation and motor control; aileron, rudder, spoiler, and elevator actuators; and remote electronic units.

Hydraulic, fuel, and inerting systems. Parker Aerospace will also be responsible to provide the hydraulic, fuel, and inerting systems for the C919.

The hydraulic system features a control and monitoring software package for the C919 integrated modular avionics controller and provides the functions necessary to power and control the aircraft's flight control system, landing gear and steering systems, and thrust-reversers.

The fuel system equipment will handle multiple functions for the aircraft's fuel system and includes engine feed, auxiliary power unit feed, refuel and defuel, venting, scavenge, fuel quantity gauging, and integrated modular avionics fuel gauging and management software. The inerting system includes the conditioned air supply and electronic control, as well as nitrogen-enriched air generation and distribution, reducing the flammability of fuel vapors in the aircraft's fuel tanks and increasing aircraft safety.

"Parker is very pleased to have been awarded these four key systems packages on the C919," said Parker Aerospace President Bob Barker. "The systems wins on this aircraft provide a solid platform to grow our business and provide the best, most competitive products in the fastest growing aerospace market in the world."

Contracts revenue for the four systems will exceed US$4 billion over the life of the program for Parker.
