Metronor's new SOLOspin portable CMM

SOLOspin: New portable CMM with 360˚ field-of-view

At the Control 2010 fair in Stuttgart, Metronor presents the new SOLOspin - the first camera-based coordinate measurement system with a 360˚ field-of-view. Bringing the productivity and user-friendliness of arm-less hand-held probing to applications in enclosed areas ranging from yacht, aircraft and custom vehicle interiors to documenting and installing piping and tubing in chemical and oil industries at costs substantially lower than previous systems - both in terms of initial investment and efficiency in use.

The patent-pending SOLOspin system uses Metronor's hand-held probe in combination with a camera that can be freely rotated to provide an unlimited field-of-view. As the camera rotates, the system's reference is also rotated automatically - providing for seamless measuring in any direction.

Says Metronor CEO Oyvind Roetvold: "SOLOspin is the ideal solution in many industries and offers efficiency and cost benefits not found elsewhere. We plan to launch a few variations of SOLOspin systems tailored for specific applications. For example, quite affordable and very portable systems for yacht, vehicle and other interior work will offer flexibility, convenience and capability to handle both small and larger volumes beyond what is practical with arm solutions. Higher-performance systems will address critical tooling measurements, such as automotive framing stations - offering a highly efficient solution at far lower cost than competing systems."

In line with Metronor's "investment for the future" approach, SOLOspin capability can be added to existing Metronor SOLO and DUO systems or SOLOspin can be purchased as a turn-key system - which again can form the basis for future upgrades to any other Metronor system configuration. This flexibility ensures that a purchase of Metronor technology provides solid Return-On-Investment both immediately and as measurement requirements may change over time.
