Aerospace testing; a crash course in permeability

It's obviously important that no part of an aircraft, drone or missile allows water or hydrocarbons to leak in and affect, for example, the instruments or electronics on board. The problems that are hardest to track down often result from water or hydrocarbon vapour permeating through the walls, by osmosis. Getting it wrong can be disastrous; getting it right can avoid both in-flight problems and a crash course in testing!

Conventional tests on components, assemblies, doors, panels, materials, tanks, pipes and seals can be slow and expensive, taking days, weeks or even months - and they are not always either accurate or consistent. To overcome this, Versaperm has produced an upgraded version of its advanced and sensitive new meter which can quickly and accurately test vapour permeability under a range of physical conditions.

Since the terrible fate of the Challenger shuttle caused by a faulty sealing

O-ring, permeability testing has been de-rigour across the aerospace industries. Versaperm's latest equipment makes this simpler, faster and more precise, yet requires, at most, minimal training.

Sometimes results can be produced in as little as 30 minutes. It is accurate in the Parts Per Million (PPM) range for many materials and gasses.

Versaperm's new meter can optionally be configured to measure permeability for a variety of gasses including hydrocarbons, solvents, oxygen, carbon dioxide, helium and water vapour. The equipment is easy to use and highly automated.

Versaperm also offers a laboratory testing service and technical consultancy for companies that test too few samples to make the purchase of equipment viable.
