Hamilton Sundstrand's MC-21 systems move to joint definition phase

Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) , is successfully working with Irkut Corp. to develop systems for the company's new MC-21 aircraft family.

In 2009 Irkut selected Hamilton Sundstrand to supply multiple systems for the MC-21 commercial aircraft family including the Advanced Electric Power Generating System, Secondary Electrical Power Distribution, Auxiliary Power Unit, Wing Anti-Ice and the Nitrogen Generation System. In addition, Hamilton Sundstrand teamed with NPO Nauka to jointly develop the Integrated Air Management System, while Kidde Aerospace & Defense, a Hamilton Sundstrand subsidiary, was selected to supply the Fire Detection and Suppression System.

"Hamilton Sundstrand is delighted to be a major partner with Irkut Corp. on the MC-21, and we congratulate them on this program's successful launch," said Hamilton Sundstrand President Alain Bellemare. "We are very pleased with the aircraft program's progress to date and the completion of this major milestone. We look forward to many more such achievements."

These awards are expected to be worth approximately $2.3 billion over the life of the program.

Slated to enter service in 2016, the MC-21 is Irkut Corp.'s newest aircraft model, accommodating between 150 and 230 passengers in three basic versions.
