BRP's Rotax 912 iS aircrft engine receives EASA type certification

BRP receives the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Type Certificate (TC) for the new Rotax 912 iSc aircraft engine only five months after its introduction.

"The EASA Type Certificate (TC) comes only a few weeks after the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) certified the Rotax 912 iS engine, allowing BRP to produce certified ROTAX 912 iSc engines for the European market. These are important milestones in the commercialization of new aircraft engines," said Gerd Ohrnberger, vice-president and general manager, BRP-Powertrain.

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) promotes the highest standards of safety and environmental protection in civil aviation in Europe and worldwide. In the light sport, ultra-light and general aviation industry, the Rotax 912 iS engine delivers 38 to 70% better fuel efficiency than comparable competitive engines.

After the EASA Type Certification, BRP's Rotax aircraft engines team will concentrate on getting the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification. Other countries will follow as each has its own validation process.

With more than 170,000 engines sold, in almost 40 years, Rotax aircraft engines dominate the light sport and ultra-light aircraft industry. With 20 authorized distributors and a network of more than 200 sales and repair centres, BRP supports customers worldwide and supplies engines to more than 80% of all aircraft manufacturers in its segment.
