Today Phyre Technologies, Inc. announced that it had successfully completed the Design Phase as part of its Combat Tempered Platform Demonstration (CTPD) program. Phyre is contracted by Sikorsky Aircraft, a unit of United Technologies Corporation to build and demonstrate a Green On-Board Inert Gas Generating System (GOBIGGSTM) system for the UH-60 BLACK HAWK.
The design phase, which was completed on November 20th, demonstrated that the design of GOBIGGSTM meets system requirements and establishes the basis for proceeding with component purchase, fabrication and assembly. Phyre remains ahead of schedule to test GOBIGGSTM at Army Research Lab in spring 2014.
Phyre's GOBIGGSTM is an environmentally friendly, catalytically based fuel tank inerting system designed to significantly reduce fuel tank vulnerability to explosion and thereby increase survivability of the UH-60 in forward operations.
“Phyre's GOBIGGSTM team is designing an inerting system that will offer superior fuel tank protection for the warfighter while reducing size, weight and operational costs when compared to existing inerting technologies”, said Stuart Robertson, Phyre CEO. “Working closely with Sikorsky team members has been very successful and has built a strong foundation for the remaining tasks in the CTPD program."
Phyre Technologies, Inc. is a privately held company based in El Cajon, CA. Phyre specializes in advanced research and development in aerospace and defense fluid systems. These include fuel tank inerting and fuel de-oxygenation for improved turbine engine performance and advanced thermal management. Alderman & Company® provides strategic advice to Phyre Technologies in regard to their GOBIGGSTM and PADS technologies.
