Northrop Grumman introduces new commercial inertial measurement unit
Tuesday, 23 June 2015

Northrop Grumman Corporation has announced the launch of a new dual-use tactical grade inertial measurement unit (IMU) that is specially designed for the commercial market.

The commercial-off-the-shelf LN-200C is a compact and lightweight six-degrees-of-freedom IMU that can be used for a variety of applications, including instrument stabilization, motion compensation and navigation in commercial, aerospace and industrial applications. Based on fiber-optic gyro (FOG) technology, the LN-200C IMU's hermetic seal and lack of moving parts help to ensure low noise and extended operational life.

Export of the commercial-off-the-shelf LN-200C will be administered through the Department of Commerce under its Export Administration Regulations per a commodity jurisdiction ruling from the U.S. Department of State.

"This new product broadens the market for our high-performing inertial measurement units and gives customers tremendous flexibility through multiple performance options," said Bob Mehltretter, vice president, Navigation and Positioning Systems, Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems. "Additionally, customers will benefit from a product that capitalizes on the strengths of the already proven LN-200."

Derived from the high-performing and reliable LN-200 FOG IMU, the LN-200C has the same electro-mechanical interface and form factor as the LN‑200. The LN-200C can serve as a drop-in replacement for many applications that do not require the full operational range of the LN-200 and that can benefit from the expedited licensing and global ease of use offered by the LN-200C.
