An additional £250,000 investment in degreasing equipment by the Wallwork Group provides aerospace and advanced engineering businesses with a new contract degreasing service that meets all the requirements of the aerospace industry and the Solvent Emissions Directive (SED). The new service, which handles individual aerospace components of up to 1.5 cubic metres, meets ISO 9100 and NADCAP requirements.
The most recent addition to the installation is a Firbimatic system supplied by Standard Industrial Cleaning Systems Ltd [www.standardindustrial.co.uk Tel. 0845 257 1985] which allows safe and emission-compliant sealed trichloroethylene degreasing. It is notable that the latest solvent degreasers offer very fast and efficient degreasing with minimal environmental impact.
"Now we can offer a fully compliant degreasing service on a 24/7 basis," explains Wallwork director Peter Carpenter. "It enables aerospace businesses to avoid the substantial investment needed for SED compliant solvent-based cleaning equipment, while providing the security of a reliable, fast process conforming to ISO 9100 & NADCAP that also meets the full terms of the Solvent Emissions Directive."
Wallwork has operated a SED compliant degreasing service since its introduction in 2007. With the undertaking by the solvent suppliers only to sell to users of licensed equipment after the end of next year, the new 'stand-alone' service may well be a cost effective solution to the problem for many manufacturers.
The new service will be available from all three of the Wallwork Group's UK sites, at Birmingham, Bury and Cambridge. It is supported by heat treatment, hard coating and other surface engineering services, with a dedicated transport fleet of 40 vehicles to provide rapid response and overnight delivery of critical components.
