Lockwood Aircraft to re-introduce the Air-Cam! New exhibit spaces secured at EAA Airventure Oshkosh
Friday, 15 June 2007

You may not know the name Lockwood Aircraft even though it is very probable you know Lockwood Aviation Supply. The latter business is the country's leading seller and service organization for the Rotax line of engines. Lockwood Aircraft is a new business formed to manufacture, sell, and service the twin-engine Air-Cam and the line of Drifter light aircraft.

"We were fortunate to find an excellent exhibit location at EAA's big summer airshow," reported company president, Phil Lockwood. "We will be on Knapp Road near Building B and next to the EAA Membership tent just south of the main east/west entry street."

In side-by-side spaces 215 & 216, Lockwood Aircraft will display a land version of the Air-Cam and an amphibious version of this unique twin-engine homebuilt. As it did this spring at the Sun 'n Fun show, the AirVenture display signals the return of the Air-Cam to the leadership of Phil Lockwood, whose team created the iconic aircraft under contract from National Geographic more than a decade ago. For several years the airplane languished under the business name Leza Aircraft but in early 2007 Lockwood completed a deal to purchase all design rights, inventory, and tooling from prior owner, Antonio Leza. All components are now housed in new quarters at Lockwood's Sebring airport location.

Lockwood Aviation Supply remains at their familiar AirVenture exhibit location near the center of Building B on its south perimeter isle. Company representatives will serve customers of the supply and maintenance services business from this location as they have for many years. But now, nearby, the enterprise will include the latest addition to Lockwood's ever-growing aviation conglomerate.

With 120 Air-Cams flying around the U.S. and the world, owners are celebrating the return of Phil Lockwood as the aircraft's producer. Ask any Air-Cam owner — or someone who has flown the machine — and you'll find some of most intensely loyal pilots in the world. Air-Cam is renown for achieving flights over terrain others avoid.
