Horizon praises DoD as it completes HSVTOL first phase

Eleven contenders had until June 30 to complete Phase 1 of the AFWERX High Speed Vertical Takeoff and Landing Challenge. Horizon, for one, hopes to continue testing and designing a full-scale aircraft.

The Eco Caravan will retain the payload capabilities of the Grand Caravan, carrying up to 11 passengers or 2,500 pounds of cargo. Range improves to 1,100 nautical miles.

RED engine selected for Ampaire's Eco Caravan

Ampaire conducted the first Eco Caravan hybrid powertrain ground runs in April, with plans to fly the aircraft in the second half of the year. The target for STC approval is 2024.

Further involvement in RWUAS will see Yeovil expand and become the UK's hub for uncrewed military VTOL aircraft, Leonardo hopes. This latest contract will see 100 staff employed on the Proteus prototype.
