Allegheny Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: ATI) announced that its thin titanium Precision Rolled Strip® product was selected by the Sensors and Integrated Systems Division of the Goodrich Corporation (NYSE: GR) for use in heated floor panels for commercial aircraft. ATI's product is Grade 2 titanium rolled to 0.012 inches (0.305 mm) thin by 42 inches (1067 mm) wide. Goodrich uses this thin and wide titanium product to manufacture light weight and highly durable heated floor panels installed at the entrance of most commercial airplanes.
"We are pleased to provide this unique titanium product to Goodrich," said Rich Harshman, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Allegheny Technologies. "This thin and wide titanium product is another capability differentiator resulting from ATI's integrated supply chain. From raw materials (titanium sponge) through melting, hot rolling, and finishing in very thin gauges at wide widths, we offer a seamless, real supply chain capable of meeting our customers' timing, quality, and service expectations.
"ATI produces titanium foils as thin as 0.0005 inch (0.0127 mm), which is about half the thickness of standard aluminum foil found in the home, requiring unsurpassed manufacturing capabilities, including exceptional gauge control, flatness, and surface quality. Goodrich recognizes and values these attributes in the ATI product and further benefits from ATI's reliable supply chain."
