The MiG-AT accomplished its first flight with the new RD-1700 engine

Today the MiG-AT jet trainer by the Russian Aircraft Corporation "MiG" took to the skies fitted with the new RD-1700 turbojet engine. The flight was accomplished by Oleg Antonovich, RAC "MiG" test pilot, Hero of Russia.

The RD-1700 engine is undergoing trials on the MiG-AT trainer (tail number 821). Currently the trainer's power plant consists of one each RD-1700 and "Larzak" engines (by Snecma). The MiG-AT has been fully flight trialed with the two Larzak engines earlier.

In the course of a 35-minute sortie performed at the altitude of up to 3,000 meters the power plant operation was tested at various modes. According to Oleg Antonovich, the RD-1700 engine performance was up to the mark.

The RD-1700 engine developed by Tushino engine design bureau (TMKB) "Soyuz" was produced and rig-tested by "Chernyshev" Moscow-based machine-manufacturing enterprise. The RD-1700 developing program is being jointly financed by "Soyuz" and "Chernyshev".
